Dental Implants in Brampton

A popular treatment of replacing a missing tooth or multiple teeth is known as dental implants. To understand the importance of implants, you first need to understand how the missing tooth can affect you. The main purpose of teeth is to help you chew down the food. When you chew food, the roots of the tooth connected to the jaw sends the signal to the brain to absorb minerals and nutrients to the bone. However, with the tooth gone, the mouth is unable to send this signal to the brain and hence those minerals and nutrients are now used for other purposes, depriving the bone and essentially weakening it.

Dental Implants are made up of strong material and are shaped like a screw to fix into the jaw as a replacement for the root. With the help of oral surgery, the implant is set exactly into the space of the missing tooth and starts functioning in its stead.

The implants are completely fused to the jawbone, hence there are no chances of it slipping or shifting into your mouth. They are provided with stable support that allows it to remain fixated in its place even if it is an artificial tooth. Because the implant is set so properly, the bridges and dentures set over the implant also remain in place and hence, talking and eating for the patient is about as natural as it was before.

In ordinary bridging and dentures, it is not as comfortable for the mouth because they are attached to the sides of the neighboring teeth. They may also cause sore spots and gagging. However, dental implants see to it that the artificial tooth does not need the support of any neighboring tooth and they do not cause any discomfort to the patient.

However, a few conditions have to be met before you can get dental implants. You have to have healthy gums and bones for the implant to take. And after the implantation, you have to make sure to take absolute care of hygiene of the implanted tooth and ensure regular trips to the dentist to make sure that it is in optimal condition. While implants are more expensive than the regular treatments, they are also more effective and have the tendency to be long term if they are maintained properly.

There are two types of implants that are considered to be the safest.

  • Endosteal Implants
In this implantation method, two surgeries are performed. In the first one, implants are surgically implanted directly into the jawbone. In the second after the gums heal, a post is connected to the first implant and then the artificial tooth is connected through the post over the implant.
  • Subperiosteal Implants
In this implantation process, jawbone is fitted with a metal frame just under the gum tissue. Posts are already protruding through the gum tissue as they are attached to the metal frame. After the gums heal, the metal frame becomes fixed and then the artificial teeth are fixed upon the posts.
